Canon

When Ash meets Pewter's Joy, he mistakes her for Viridian's Joy. She explains she's the older sister and that she had heard nice things about him from her little sister. Before leaving to heal his pokemon, she asks Ash if he looked at the Pokemon League poster yet, which prompts him to decide to take the gym challenge.

In Shudo's novels, she has a playful attitude when it comes to looking identical to her family, even telling Ash and Misty to call her the most beautiful of the Joys. (Although it seems like they all like to call themselves the prettiest Joy.)

The next morning, Joy recommends the ishigaki strawberries for Misty to try on her toast for breakfast.

After Ash forfeits his first match with Brock and returns to the center, Joy mutters about how strong Brock is. Ash and Misty mistake it for callousness. She explains that the way Brock had his Onix attack Pikachu by merely rendering it exhausted instead of actually hurting its body is admirable, as it's an ideal form of battling without overkill.

The next line could very well be foreshadowing from Shudo as to what was intended for the 1st movie with Mewtwo:

"When it's not a situation of predator and prey, fights between living creatures will typically end the moment it's clear who's stronger. They have no reason to gravely injure the weak... The only ones who go for extra damage or outright killing are humans," Joy shrugged as she spoke.

Afterwards, as Ash is determined to challenge Brock again the next day (without training mind you), Joy kindly suggests that he studies a little more instead with Misty bluntly telling him he's short on knowledge and skill. Joy then warns Ash of the life of wandering aimlessly as a trainer that never wins gym battles. She mentions an old man sitting nearby that has traveled for years but will have to quit due to his ailing health, as an example. To lighten the mood, Joy suggests Ash checks out the Pewter City science museum as he might learn something there.

#75: Round One - Begin! we see her using a megaphone to announce to the crowd of trainers that her center is full. She is one of the many Joys that Brock recognizes.

Headcanon

- First born Joys are more likely to be assigned to centers their mothers were in charge of in their hometown.

- Knows full well how flirtatious Brock gets, but she knows it's because both his parents are assholes.

- Likes strawberries.
