Ash's rash nature gets him into trouble as he challenges Dewford's gym leader, Brawly, going so far as to interrupt his day off. Despite Brock's warning, Ash pushes Taillow and Treecko to their limit, ending the battle in a loss. They are brought to the Pokemon Center for care and an overnight stay. Ash and his friends are all by Treecko's bed while Nurse Joy takes care of it.

Ash: "Nurse Joy, is Treecko okay?"
Nurse Joy: "Physically, Treecko's okay, but forcing a pokemon to battle this hard... I don't like it at all."

Nurse Joy proves once again she can be stern, but seeing Ash look worried leads to a gentle reminder as she walks away: "Treecko needs some rest. Please."

AG 21 / 295: Which Wurmple's Which: Ash is sleeping with Pikachu just outside of Treecko's and Taillow's rooms, wrapped up in a blanket. Brock, May, and Max find him just in time to see Nurse Joy walk out of Treecko's room. He asks if Treecko is alright, with Joy assuring him with a smile that Treecko is just fine.

Ash picks up his pokemon at the front desk, and they all have breakfast. Ash announces his plans to stay on the island to train before his gym rematch. Max bounces over with excitement; Nurse Joy told him that Steven Stone is on the island doing "top secret research".

Um, Joy, it's not exactly top secret if you're spilling the tea to a rando trainer's annoying little brothers now, is it? On top of that, Steven is specifically trying to find a rare stone in Granite Cave on the other side of the island. With this in mind, the group decide their training destination right away!

AG 24 / 298: A Corphish Out of Water: Shortly after catching a rambunctious Corphish and chasing after Team Rocket for stealing Pikachu, it catches a high fever prompting Ash to carry it back to the Pokemon Center. It would be easier with a pokeball but... Ash left them at the campsite! Brock, May, and Max go back to the campsite while Ash carries Corphish with Pikachu following behind.

Making it in the nick of time, Joy gets to work right away. Turns out the main culprit for Corphish's fever was a camp supply it ate: a pool rope float consisting of kelp, rope, and... wooden floaters? The cheap animation doesn't show just how gross it must've been to pull THAT out of Corphish's mouth! Yuck!

Nurse Joy: "But, anyway... Why would it eat something like that?"
Ash: "Uh... It's just that- I, uh, well- I, I don't know... 🥺👉👈"

Ash and Pikachu stay by Corphish's bed overnight. The next morning as they check out at the front desk, Ash's Taillow flies through an open window. Joy notices the taperecorder around Taillow's neck in confusion, and Ash listens to it. Brock's frantic voice can be heard explaining they're caught in Team Rocket's trap cages on the beach with the tide coming in!

In badassery that hasn't been seen in a while, Joy gives Ash a highspeed ride on her motorboat! Corphish swims faster, using Crabhammer attack to break the top of the visible cages, freeing everyone including Team Rocket who got caught in their own trap! Team Rocket are grateful for the rescue, but not enough to warrant giving up on capturing Pikachu. They're blasted off again with Corphish's Bubblebeam, and everyone thanks the nuisance of the day. Corphish hits everyone on the head as a friendly gesture, even while Brock thanks Nurse Joy for the rescue by asking her out for a romantic candlelit dinner. Her reply?

Nurse Joy: "Well..."
*cue 40 seconds of awkward hand holding on Brock's part*

Nurse Joy: "Let go of my hand, please~!"
