Leda was a hardy Joy that took over her mother's center in Celadon City. There was a time when things were immensely busy, to the point where Leda had to stay awake at night often to fulfill her duties. While working overtime, an accident almost cost her nursing license. It wasn't without consequences though...

Being sued for medical malpractice by multiple people, Leda's mother and grandmother sold their homes in order to pay off Leda's debt. They now live together in one of Celadon's condominiums owned by a good friend of Granny's. Leda's mother came out of retirement to take charge of the center full-time again. Since Granny is one of the matriarchs of the family in Kanto, the aftermath angered many family members. Leda is rendered a social outcast despite continuing support from her mother and grandmother, who both continue to protest against the family's judgement.

Leda feels overwhelming guilt and burnt out from the situation, so much that she's jaded and doesn't enjoy her hobbies like gardening anymore. Noticing this, Granny suggests she travels around on a journey to get a break from nursing.

Leda's Chansey was a rescue pokemon, saved from the mistreatment of Team Rocket. It's generally fearful and dislikes humans. Later on a Diglett decides to join her, and a new friend and travelling companion catches a Shuckle for her.

Despite the lingering feelings of guilt and shame, Leda's mother and grandmother still ask her to represent Celadon in the Indigo League as a nurse.
